Ten Major Companies Call for Climate Action
Industry leaders support hard limits on global warming pollution
The companies involved in today’s announcement are well-known corporations from the energy, manufacturing and financial services sectors: Alcoa, BP America, Caterpillar, Duke Energy, DuPont, Florida Power & Light, General Electric (a founding member), Lehman Brothers, Pacific Gas & Electric, and PNM Resources.
The debate is about whether we should do something about global warming or not is over. These corporations will now want to shape the effort to combat global warming in ways that are compatible with their interests. It is the fiduciary duty of their CEOs to do so.
As Tancredi says in Il Gattopardo/The Leopard, “If we want that everything remains as it is, everything must change” (“Se vogliamo che tutto rimanga com’è, bisogna che tutto cambi”).
It is always interesting to watch CEOs in Tancredi mode.
