Market Incentives to Preserve Biodiversity

Ecologic – Institute for International and European Environmental Policy has published a report on The Use of Market Incentives to Preserve Biodiversity. The reports discusses which market based instruments (MBIs) have already been implemented, and which ones are most widely used.

The authors conclude, “Overall well-designed and credibly implemented MBIs seem to be able to deliver biodiversity objectives cost-efficiently.”

But “The paucity of ex-post evaluations also means it is difficult to tell where MBIs are currently successful.”

Ecologic is a private not-for-profit think tank for applied environmental research, policy analysis and consultancy.
